Eating out in Pune - Part 1

It is always good to start with places you know deliver on value and also on taste. Introducing first a small joint along Paud Road named "Gaonkari"

Please do not go expecting an enticing ambiance or servers in a suit and tie. If you want to go and eat a proper Kolhapuri Meal this is one of the few places which I would recommend. I will be honest and admit that I have no idea about their Veg fare I have not tried it and do not intend to do so. I recommend their Thalis. Now before I go further I must give reasons as to why I recommend this place so strongly.

1. Price : It is very reasonable in terms of pricing. And the value for money quotient is high.
2. Taste : Each Curry on the thali tastes different this is the main reason I recommend this place. Of the many places in Pune which are similar you will notice that the taste of the curries is similar if not the same but not here. I loved the Egg Curry which comes in the thali.
3. Variety : Although I ordered the Thali I was very happy with the variety on the plate you get a taste of quite a few things and will be satisfied with the outcome.
4. Service : Now this is a no frills place. You may have to share your table with some one but who cares the food is tasty you get served fast no matter how busy they are and they will come and ask you if you want something else and will continuously fill your plate with the rassa and onions you don't even need to ask.

I recommend this place because of the taste and the no-frills service. I hope you do give it a try. In the next edition I will take on something on the other end of the spectrum. All suggestions are welcome.

Buying a whey protein powder

Well I have started working out again and that meant that I needed some whey protein. I really had no clue that so many different whey proteins in the market. I understand that there is a need for it but what really interested me was the fact that people do research and buy these products. The prices did put me off a little and no idea if the results are visible. Well the quest to find a suitable whey continues.

Warm Apple Pie

There is something about food that comforts us. Soul food, comfort food, what ever you call it has a lot to do with mental state you are in. I have always thought about what would be my comfort food. What would be the meal I would like before I die. Well the answer is definitely not simple. Neither is it permanent because I have not tasted all the world has to offer. There will definitely be Apple Pie, Caesar Salad with a generous helping of parmesan, maybe some Pork Vindaloo. The list is definitely long. And so I have decided to have a bucket list of things I am going to eat before I die. I would like your suggestions join the list

Salad at your Doorstep

As promised I did order salad from Green Tokri. Was very happy with the quantity and quality. The delivery guy was also very customer friendly. I ordered two dressing as well I must say I loved their Mustard dressing. Was very similar to the french dressing that I love, maybe the only difference was the setting. Spot on with the effort I say more power to green tokri.

Pune Farmer Market

Visiting the recently finished Farmers Market at Westin was more of a spur of the moment decision. I initially thought well it is in a 5 star it is going to be expensive and no idea what kind of farmers are going to come to such a Farmers Market. I have been to farmers markets in the UK and always enjoyed picking things up. Well off I went to Westin and was pleasantly surprised at the offering.

Let me start of with the vegetables. There were a few stalls that were selling veggies like lettuce, brocolli, celery, rocket and the other good stuff. Now generally I pick up some of this stuff from super markets but is usually expensive. Getting broccoli for 20 and a bag of mixed cut leaves for 60 was not something that I had imagined. I loved the way the people where friendly and were happy talking about their farm and the produce. I also liked the price and could not help buying quite a few things.

There were quite a few wine stalls. Unfortunately I did not visit them. I did visit the flower and plants stall and loved the things they had. I am very happy with the cactus I bought. Also it was not very expensive. You rarely get the plants at your local or nearby flower shop.

I did see "Pride of Cows" at one of the stalls and wanted to visit it but didn't get the time.

My take away to you is if you do see a farmer market taking place do visit it and be blown away. Only feedback I would have had was if they had some protein it would have been great. Oh one of the farmers does have home delivery I have registered for it now to see if it works and put it up.

Introduction

This is my new blog and all. I will be rambling about restos, pubs, events, in and around Pune to be more specific ones to which I go. Nothing else.
